The Mount Maunganui Easter Family Festival is cancelled due to the weather.

Organisers of the 2014 National Jazz Festival wish to remind residents their event is still on, despite some confusion between the two.

Tauranga City Council also advises that downtown Mount shopping centre that was to be closed for the Mount event will now remain open.

'Unfortunately, due to continuing wet, wild and windy weather forecasts for the rest of the weekend, the board have made the tough decision to cancel the Easter Family Festival this Saturday,” says Mount Mainstreet manager Leanne Brown.

'We have a responsibility to host an entirely safe event, and as a large number of our performances are active and all outside, the Board feels there are too many risks.”

Events must be safe, fun and enjoyable for everyone, and the expected nasty weather presents too many issues for everyone, says Leanne.

The shops, eateries and businesses will open as planned, however there will no activities and entertainment.

'We apologise for any inconvenience, and we too are really disappointed,” says Leanne.
