Debris, sand movement and poor beach conditions has seen the Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Club cancel the Beach Dig and Tug-O-War event.

The event was scheduled for today but storming weather conditions in the last couple of days have stirred up an unfavourable environment.

'It's important that the event was safe and enjoyable for all ages and the expected weather and beach conditions mean too many issues remained,” the club posted on its Facebook page last night.

'We are sorry about this cancellation and hope that it doesn't cause any inconvenience for anyone. Have a great Easter break.”
