Cannabis grower to be sentenced

A Mount Maunganui man found with 40 mature cannabis plants in his home will be sentenced in June.

Steven John Hutchinson's, 44, appearance was excused when his case was called for a sentence indication hearing in Tauranga District Court yesterday.

A Mount Maunganui man will be sentenced in June for cultivating cannabis.

Hutchinson is charged with cultivating cannabis and diverting electricity under the Crimes Act.

He was arrested following an armed police search of a property in Allison Avenue on Wednesday, February 26.

At the time of the arrest, police said 40 mature cannabis plants, described as high quality and good condition, were located at the property.

Following a sentence indication hearing yesterday, Hutchinson's lawyer Craig Tuck indicated his client would plead guilty to the charges.

Hutchinson was remanded on bail and will be sentenced on June 3.
