Jammed bus delays traffic

A Tauranga-based Bayline bus caused traffic holdups on State Highway 1 near Wellington today when the driver got stuck at the bottom of Paekakariki Hill Road.

The charter bus was heading back to the Bay of Plenty about 11.15am when the bus failed to make a turn into a turning area.

It travelled straight on into the traffic island separating the north and south-bound lanes of SH1 and became stuck causing traffic hold-ups along the highway, reports Stuff.co.nz

A Bayline bus spokesperson told SunLive no one was injured or harmed, the bus simply got stuck attempting a turn.

She confirmed the bus was headed back to Tauranga and had been chartered by a group who stayed the weekend in the Wellington area. Bayline is yet to talk to the driver involved.

Police say the bus was removed from the roadway about 1.15pm today.
