UPDATE 10AM: Traffic is now flowing in both directions on State Highway 2 in the Karangahake Gorge, 18km east of Paeroa, following a truck and trailer unit flipping on the road earlier this morning.

With emergency services attending the crash, police said earlier this morning road closures were in place with the northbound lane of the gorge, near Waikino, blocked.

But a SunLive reporter at the scene says traffic is now flowing freely in both directions, with minor disruption to the highway's commuters.

'Traffic is flowing well in both directions, there's only a minor delay.

'They've removed the truck, and only the high-sided chip-trailer is on-site – and they're bringing in a machine to remove that. But it has been righted, and is off the road.

'So there is no major problems for traffic.”

EARLIER: A truck and trailer unit has flipped in the Karangahake Gorge, 18km east of Paeroa, this morning.

Emergency services are at the crash and police say road closures are in place as the northbound lane of the gorge, near Waikino, is blocked.

'Heavy moving equipment is required to clear this road. One lane will remain open most of the time until it is clear,” says Inspector Kerry Watson.

There are no reports of injuries.

'Considerable congestion is likely to occur. It is estimated that the road will not be clear for some time. We will advise when it is clear.”
