Prime Minister to visit city

Prime Minster John Key will meet Papamoa school students before opening a nearby retirement village in a whistle-stop visit to Tauranga City.

Arriving in Tauranga tomorrow morning, John Key will visit several organisations including Tui Garden Supplies and Golden Sands School.

It is likely to be his last visit to the Bay of Plenty before September's general elections.

While at the school he will meet with senior students before walking next door to officially open Freedom Villages – a $46million lifestyle community village for residents over 50-years-old – at 10.15am.

The Papamoa village covers 6.5 hectares consisting of up to 160 ground-level houses ranging in size from 77sq metre one and a half bedroom homes to 120sq metre 3-bedroom units.

Each self-contained unit will sit on a 240sq metre site and homes will range in prices from $219,000 to just over $315,000.

Freedom Villages founder Juliette Yarrell says the official launch of Freedom will be a celebration for the whole community, including local school children, dignitaries and community representatives.

'At Freedom Villages we were driven by a social conscience to provide sustainable and affordable lifestyle options to the 50-plus middle New Zealand market,” says Juliette.

'We're really excited that we're meeting that need, which has been proven by the demand and sales we've made. So it seems pertinent to invite the local community in and celebrate Freedom Villages with us.

The Prime Minister was in Tauranga last month, meeting with Tauranga Boys and Girls College students, and Bethlehem's Village Childcare.

The 2014 election will be held on September 20.

An Apology and explanation, perhaps?

Perhaps the Prime Minister might offer a long overdue apology, following an explanation, as to why he has chosen not to honour his promise to Tauranga City of 4 November 2008, specifically, to complete within 5-6 years the 4 laning of the 15th Avenue, Turret Rd, Hairini Bridge and underpass.

Not you too Murray Guy! Whu not acknowledge that before Mr Key's undertaking on the underpass, TCC had already signed an agreement about taking ownership of 15th Ave & Turret Road? TCC therefore has a responsibility to do the widening - not the Government!
