Fierce battle at charity boxing night

Tauranga community members gloved up last night to raise around $40,000 as part of the DARE to Fight for Youth Charity boxing event at ASB Baypark.

Police officers, lawyers, business people and firefighters battle it out to see who had what it took to be crowned the winner.

The event was organised by Te Aranui Youth Trust which is the governing organisation for DARE, Blue Light, Great Pathways Youth Development, and the new Te Ara Poutama Mentoring Programme.

Organiser Wendy Nicholls says everything went well last night.

'I think we had a little more than 1000 people there with the tables and the grandstand, which is up from the number of people we had last year.

'At a rough count, I think we raised around $40,000.” Wendy says there was a good atmosphere with some fiercely fought battles last night.

'Our boxer of the night was Constable Rachel Penfold.”

Wendy is rapt with the support the event has received from the community this year.
