Busy night for rescue chopper

The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was kept busy overnight responding to three separate calls in 24 hours.

About 2.45pm on Saturday, the helicopter was called to Takaka to uplift two boys, aged 11, from Brightwater and Richmond, after they both sustained injuries playing rugby.

Both boys were flown to Nelson Hospital for further assessment.

At 4.15pm, the helicopter was called to Rainbow Ski Field, where a 39-year-old Blenheim woman sustained an arm injury while skiing with her children. The woman was transported to Wairau Hospital for further care.

On Friday evening, the helicopter was dispatched to Moenui Bay in Pelorus Sounds where a man, in his 70's, sustained a leg injury after falling backwards down some stairs.

The man was flown to Wairau Hospital in a stable condition for further assessment.

Angels

The heli rescue folks are real angels, same as the ambulance and paramedics as well. We don't think about them much when we don't need them, but they are a godsend when we do and they come to our aid. It might be an idea to remember this when they ask for donations just to continue to stay in existence.... you never know when you might need them?
