Video store robbed at gunpoint

UPDATE 12.30PM: Detectives are looking for two men who robbed a Mount Maunganui Video Ezy at gunpoint.

Mount Maunganui CIB Detective Sergeant Pete Blackwell says two males entered the premises on Owens Place about 7pm Saturday armed with a pistol.

Two people robbed the Video Ezy using what is believed to be a pistol about 7pm Saturday.

'They have confronted the staff members and demanded money.”

Both men have then fled the store on foot after obtaining the cash till containing a small amount of money, say police.

'Fortunately the store attendants were not physically harmed.”

Both men were wearing clothing that covered their entire bodies including face and hands.

From police investigations it is understood both men were also seen around the Bayfair roundabout with Girven Road.

'Police have received good assistance from the public that indicate that these two offenders were in the vicinity of the Bayfair roundabout just prior to this robbery and soon after the robbery.”

Police would like to hear from members of the public that were in this area on Saturday evening that may have seen these offenders both prior to and after this robbery.

Anybody with information is encouraged to contact the Mt Maunganui Police on phone 575 3143.

When contacted the owners of the video store did not wish to comment.

Next door at Liquorland a spokesperson told SunLive that staff were not aware of the incident over the weekend but were informed this morning.

Owens Place Animal Antics owners, Ross and Dianne Mitchell, say the incident is saddening to see.

'I haven't spoken to anybody at all. We are not open at that time of night,” says Ross.

'I don't even fully know what's happened to be honest. The police have been through just to make sure security is cool. I haven't spoken to the owner of the store next door.”
