More recycling hours in Katikati

Katikati Recycling Centre is trialling extended opening hours on Saturdays in response to public demand.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council is running a three-month trial, from this Saturday, August 2, to October 30, 2014.

Opening hours will be 9am to 5pm on Saturdays at the centre on the corner of Wills and Tetley roads.

A council survey of the centre's users conducted in March and April highlighted issues with traffic flow, vehicle congestion and lack of parking during the current opening hours.

The results of the survey were presented to Katikati Community Board at a workshop this month.

Many of those surveyed wanted extended opening hours to give more flexibility for dropping their recyclables at the centre.

As result, the current opening hours on Saturdays, of 1pm to 4pm, will be extended to 9am-5pm for three months.

A decision whether to extend the level of service permanently will be made at the end of the trial in consultation with the community through council's Long Term Plan 2015-2025 process.
