Police charity recipients chosen

Tauranga St John and Acorn Foundation are the two main recipients of this year's last Tauranga CIB Police Charity Luncheon.

This is the 20th year the auction has been held and will be held for the last time at ASB Baypark on October 17.


Tauranga St John is one of two major recipients for this year's police charity auction.

Tauranga Police CIB Charitable Trust trustee Detective Sergeant Pete Blackwell is pleased to announce this year's recipients.

'We have received 48 applications from local charity and community groups and after careful consideration are pleased to announce the following to be the successful recipients."

St John Ambulance will get money to go towards the construction of a new premise on 17th Ave.

Pete says this is about a $4m project.

The second major recipient is the Acorn Foundation.

Other recipients include:

Decision Reach Out [Toro Mai] Trust: supporting local youth on leadership opportunities.

Kathleen Kilgour Centre: supporting cancer patients with a new facility opening in October at Tauranga Hospital.

Merivale Primary School: supporting our only decile 1 school in WBOP to purchase a new van.

Cystic Fibrosis.

Te Tuinga Whanau Support Services: assisting at risk youth.

Amped4life: provides excellent anti-drug seminars in local WBOP schools.

Pete says the auction is totally sold out with a record 1450 quests attending.
