A week of fine weather ahead

Sun will most likely shine over Tauranga for the next seven days in what is expected to be the Bay of Plenty's first extended set of fine weather since June.

The low pressure system that brought rain to the region this week is moving away, leaving a cool southerly flow in its wake.

MetService meteorologist Stephen Glassey says the Bay region is expected to enjoy fine weather until next Friday.

'Although there will be some beautiful clear winter days, these conditions will produce cold overnight temperatures and frosts in many places."

Overnight lows of two or three degrees are being forecast for Tauranga for the next couple of days with, daily highs of 14-17 degrees.

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week the upper North Island was the wettest place in New Zealand with parts of Northland and Coromandel receiving more than 100mm of rain.

Tauranga saw a total of 49.4mm of rain in the 24 hours from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.
