Pedestrian dies after accident

Vivian Street in Wellington is still closed and diversions in place following the death of a 24-year-old woman who police say was struck by a car in Wellington early this morning.

Just after 1.30am on Sunday, emergency services were called to Vivian Street after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

Vivian Street between Taranaki and Tory Streets was closed while the woman was attended to. She was transported by St John Ambulance to hospital where she later died.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and the driver of the car is assisting police with the inquiry.

Police are informing family members and next of kin and no other details are available at this stage.
