Delays and diversions after crash

UPDATED 12.40PM: Traffic travelling on State Highway 2 from Te Puke to Tauranga is being diverted through Papamoa following a crash between and car and truck.

Traffic is being diverted at the Domain Road roundabout, and remains backed up in both directions at the accident site near Kairua Road.

One of the vehicles involved shows significant damage to the front, left-hand side.

Traffic backed up on Kairua Road.

A reporter at the scene says a white car and trailer is written off, with significant damage to the left-hand side.

The car is expected to be removed from the site by 1.30pm.

Two trucks are also on the side of the road, one with obvious damage to the passenger side.

The reporter says traffic surrounding the crash site is a "nightmare".

SH2 is closed to traffic travelling west from Te Puke to Tauranga.

Vehicles are instead being detoured onto Domain Road, Papamoa Beach Road, and Girven Road.

Eastbound traffic travelling from Tauranga to Te Puke is still able to travel on SH2 through the crash site.

All mostorists should expect delays.

Western Bay of Plenty acting road policing manager Senior Sergeant Mike Owen says the crash is still in its early investigations.

'It appears the crash was a glancing head-on but I am not sure which vehicle crossed the centre line or if both met in the middle.”

Mike says there were only minor injuries reported.
