Cannabis supplier bailed

A Papamoa man who has admitted charges of possessing cannabis for supply, selling cannabis and receiving, is on bail until his sentencing on October 29.

Shane Hedges appeared in Tauranga District Court on Monday where he admitted cannabis police found at a Karewa Parade address during a search on August 13 was his.

Police found 23 grams of cannabis, scales and foil squares in one room, and another bag containing 23 grams of cannabis in another room.

There were also 308 cannabis seeds, bagged and labelled per variety, in small plastic bags.

Hedges also admitted to possessing a sawn off .22 rifle, found in a blue bag and a box of 15 rounds of .22 ammunition and another five rounds in a magazine.

The 22-year-old labourer also told police he is a patched Greasy Dogs gang member, and claims a stolen Acer laptop also found in his possession was payment for a debt.

Police say Hedges bought cannabis by the ounce and broke it down into smaller foil packages he then sold for $20.

Hedges pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing cannabis for supply, two charges of selling cannabis, one charge of receiving a stolen laptop, and illegal possession of the firearm and ammunition.

His lawyer Wendy Nabney pleaded for bail saying Hedges has no criminal history, no record or breaching court orders.

Judge Simon Menzies granted bail, and set a sentencing date for October 29.

Must make his mum and dad so proud. He obviously thinks that making other peoples lives a misery is justifiable... No smack on the wrist is going to make this scourge on our communities go away and he was armed as well for goodness sake! My opinion of drugs somewhat taints the way I will probably vote. SO the Watermelons will NOT be getting my vote! If I wanted to vote for a party that is pro cannabis I would vote for Norml and Not for a party that wants to do it through the back door.

All Black considers....

All Black star Cory Jane and his wife Amie would consider moving their family to the US if it would help with the treatment of their epileptic son. Parents of epileptic children from around the world - including New Zealand - are flying to the US, where the state of Colorado has legalised the use of marijuana and cannabis oil for medicinal reasons. Amie Jane said her family would also consider such a move if 8-year-old Cassius suffered a setback with his own battle with epilepsy and ADHD. And the Epilepsy NZ ambassador said it was wrong for people to judge parents who sought the unconventional remedy. "If there is a treatment that will help my son I will weigh up the pros and cons,".

Your view is so outdated, please learn about the effects of marijuana use and its positive effects in certain cases (such as pain, depression and anxiety relief). Most people who smoke know what they are doing and the effects are significantly less destructive than alcohol. Around one third of crimes involve alcohol as a contributing factor, yet no one wants alcohol illegal do they? This is why marijuana needs to be regulated, people shouldn't have to buy from some dodgy black market guy, with the possession of guns, selling to innocent people who just want to have a smoke at the end of the day as one would have a few beers. It's quite disappointing that we live in a world full of ignorant, biased people that can vote.

Ignorant and Biased?

Would you be so kind as to debunk the research currently available that indicates the INCREASED risks of mental illness, attempted suicide, underachievement at school, lack of motivation resulting in increased dependence on social services, unemployment, cancer and numerous other health related illnesses? Maybe they forgot to seek your input into the reports? DON'T try and justify an ILLEGAL activity, particularly where the plant material has been genetically modified) I don't consider the recommendations of an "All Black" to carry any weight in this issue, I would suggest he has received very poor advice maybe from a smoker?

so how about this view!!!

Alcohol is the most abused and destructive substance on the planet, and it is legal!!!, take your blinkers off and look at some of the benefits being achieved by the use of "medicinal marijuana" in the treatment of epilepsy everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if my child was stricken with a disease that could be helped by the use of marijuana, I would break the law to help, read a few medical journals and do not be so blinkered, wake up and smell the coffee, ooops sorry caffiene is an addictive substance which our young openly abuse also, do you want to tell "red bull" that they can no longer manufacture it, and do not start on R.T.Ds, have you actually ever thought that it may be you who is the "watermelon", fact.... the T.H.C content (which causes the "high") is at low levels in medicinal marijuana.
