Harris makes AB cut

Bay of Plenty hooker Nathan Harris looks set to make his All Blacks debut after being named in the 30-strong squad for the tour of Argentina and South Africa.

The inclusion marks an impressive rise for the 22-year-old Te Puke rake having debuted for the Chiefs this season and making the fringe of the national squad.

He will almost certainly make his Test debut against the Springboks at Ellis Park next month with first choice hooker Dane Cole returning to New Zealand after the Argentinian Test for the pending birth of his first child.

Keven Mealamu, with 117 caps, is the only other hooker in the squad.

Harris, part of the New Zealand U20 side in the 2012 Junior World Cup, debuted for the Bay of Plenty Steamers in 2012 before establishing himself as the Steamers' number one hooker the following season.

And with injuries depleting the Chiefs hooking stocks Harris joined the Super Rugby side making his debut in week one against the Crusaders.

Ma'a Nonu's broken arm, which he suffered against South Africa in Wellington on Saturday, opens the door for Malakai Fekitoa in the test against Argentina in Estadio Ciudad in La Plata, with Ryan Crotty to join the squad in South Africa.

Crotty is recovering from a cheek fracture and will return to rugby with his Canterbury ITM Cup team next week before joining the All Blacks.

Other players returning from injury are Jerome Kaino (shoulder), Liam Messam (thigh), and Sam Whitelock (ribs).

The All Blacks squad flies out to Argentina on Saturday to prepare for the Test against Argentina at Estadio Ciudad in La Plata the following Saturday, September 27.

The team then flies to South Africa for the Test at Ellis Park, Johannesburg, on Saturday, October 4.
