Serious injury avoided in crashes

Tauranga Police have endured a busy week attending multiple crashes throughout the Western Bay of Plenty, but are thankful those involved escaped without serious injury.

Charges are likely to be laid once police finish their investigation of a road sweeper crash on Tuesday.

Damage to a silver hatchback on 15th Avenue.

The road sweeper rolled onto its side on Te Puna Station Road, about 200 metres from the intersection with Te Puna Road, about 3.30pm.

No one was injured but the crash blocked the northbound lane until the truck was removed from the side of the road.

Traffic was diverted around the crash using the southbound lane.

Western Bay of Plenty acting road policing manager Senior Sergeant Mike Own says the truck rolled on a corner with a 45km/h speed advisory.

'The truck failed to negotiate the corner and slid off the road. The truck onto its side into a small muddy drain.”

Mike says the driver wasn't trapped.

'The investigation is ongoing but I suspect charges are likely.”

The theme of crashes continue yesterday which an accident on Oceanbeach Road about 8.30am.

Mike says information on the crash is limited but from what he understands it involved a cyclist and vehicle colliding outside the Arataki Superette.

He believes the cyclist was taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor rib injuries.

Later in the morning, two cars collided on 15th Ave about 11.30am.

A reporter at the scene said it was a nose to tail crash involving a hatchback and a 4X4 vehicle.

There were no reports of injuries from the crash and police are investigating.

A third crash on Concord Avenue saw a Mitsubishi crash into a parked van about 3.20pm.

The driver of the Mitsubishi was taken to Tauranga Hospital after suffering from a medical episode, believed to have caused the crash.
