Witnesses to armed robbery sought

Police investigating the armed robbery of the Bellevue Superette last night are asking for witnesses to come forward.

A masked man armed with a stick entered the Windsor Road superette about 7.15pm and demanded cash.

Detective Sergeant Trevor Brown says the man has crossed Windsor Road from Otumoetai College to enter the store.

He says police would like to talk with the three men who were on Princess Road at the time of the robbery, as police believe they may have witnessed the offender entering the shop.

The offender is described as male, of medium build and wearing a dark coloured bandana, oval sunglasses and a scarf across his face.

Trevor says he was dressed in a black and white check shirt and dark trousers.

Police cordoned off the scene last night as they investigated the armed robbery and police cars were seen patrolling the streets surrounding the shopping area, near Otumoetai College.

People with information about the robbery are asked to contact Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.
