Update 11.40AM: Tauranga residents are expected to be without power until this late afternoon following a power outage in the central city.

Power is out in Tauranga Central this morning.

According to PowerCo, the power outage was reported just before 7am. Power was originally expected to be restored by 9.30am.

Tthe estimated time of restoration has now moved to 4pm.

The power outage is under investigation and is believed to have been caused by equipment failure.

Tauranga streets affected are: BROWN STREET, CAMERON ROAD, CHAPEL STREET, CROSS ROAD, DEN PLACE, KEITH ALLAN DRIVE, KEITH ALLEN DRIVE, MARSH STREET, MCLEAN STREET, MIRRIELEES ROAD, MISSION STREET, MONMOUTH STREET, PARK STREET, REID PLACE, UNKNOWN (EASTERN), WILLOW STREET Transformer TP1977 now the only one off (Mirielees Rd)
