Erratic weather for some

While temperatures are expected to fluctuate for some areas of New Zealand this week, the Bay of Plenty will remain around the 18 degree mark.

Overnight lows are expected to sit around seven-to-10 degrees as summer approaches.

'Choosing what to wear this week will be tough for those in the South Island and we recommend looking hard at the forecast temperatures each day,” says MetService meteorologist Stephen Glassey.

A cold front spread over the South Island yesterday, which was predicted to bring a period of rain and cold southerlies, before fizzling out as it reached the lower North Island.

Temperatures return to normal again mid-week, as a ridge of high pressure builds over New Zealand, before another cold front moves over the country late on Thursday and Friday.

'On Thursday, we are forecasting mainly fine weather with maximum temperatures around 20 degrees in many eastern towns,” adds Stephen.

'Then on Friday, after the southerly goes through, there will be showers with temperatures struggling to get into the low teens.”

The North Island is expected to remain mostly fine until Friday.

The weather is expected to improve over the whole country for the beginning of Labour Weekend, but the MetService warns it may deteriorate later in the weekend.
