4km/h speed tolerance in place

Police will be enforcing the 4km/h speed tolerance over the next few days as they look to make this Labour Weekend one to remember.

People caught doing up to 4km/h over the speed limit can face a $30 fine or 10 demerit points.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the faster people go the bigger the fine will be and the more demerit points they will get.

If a person incurs 100 demerit points in two years, they will lose their licence.

People are also being warned to drive to the conditions, with predictions of rain later this weekend.

'This means that motorists' speeds should be relative to the environment they are in and be really patient,” adds Ian.

'It's also very important to one, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination so you aren't rushing, and two, everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seatbelt or are properly restrained in an approved child restraint.”

Looks like the quota for tickets has been increased again, so the need to alter the level of tolerance also increases. This is all about money collection and nothing to do with prevention.

Ever since Richard Prebble joined the Police and Ministry of Transport they have year upon year asked for many new powers and laws to override our freeman on the land status and have now created an open prison on this island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Not satisfied with the fact the villains have nowhere to run to unless able to cross the biggest ocean on earth they routinely chase people in cars to death and now want to be armed all the time. WHY, WHY, WHY when these imprisoning factors exist for every villian, criminal ever wanted for a crime in this sparsely populated country whereupon only 0.08% is urbanised the rest open and sparsely populated. How about we have some intelligent answers as to why this over policing of our small population by one of the wealthiest police forces on the planet is so aggressive.

Missing the real problem

So the Police will waste time writing and processing tickets for the poor sods who dare to do 4 kmh over the limit thus taking their attention away from the red light runners and other dangerous drivers while they are doing so.

Have you ever thought..

that if you are sufficiently alert to know what speed you are travelling at that you may also be more aware of the other road rules that are there to try and keep cars apart. After all if the speed limit is only applicable to others then stopping at stop lights becomes optional, so does staying to the left of that stupid white line. A lot of people who think they are the safest driver on the road and rules only apply to those of a lesser standard. If you get a ticket for speeding, grow up and take it for what it means. Pay attention to what you are doing with a deadly weapon.
