Shelterbelt fire in Kairua

Firefighters are dealing with a shelterbelt fire in Kairua this morning.

Crews from Papamoa and Mount Maunganui were called to the 30 square metre blaze around 9.30am.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Steve Smith says the fire start as an out of control rubbish fire.

'Firefighters now have the fire under control and are awaiting further resources which I assume is more water.”
