Earthquake felt in the Bay

An earthquake clocked at 6.7 rocked the region today, with people from across the Bay of Plenty feeling to effects.

The quake hit 155km east of Te Araroa on the East Cape just after 11.30am this morning.

SunLive readers took to Facebook to confirm they'd felt quake, which was registered at a depth of 31km.

Readers in Ohauiti, Otumoetai, Welcome Bay, Te Puke, Judea, Gate Pa and Omokoroa all commented to say they'd experienced the tremors.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre have confirmed that the earthquake was not significant enough to cause a tsunami.
