Driver injured in Tauriko two-car collision

UPDATED 11.40AM: The driver of a vehicle in a two-car collision, involving four people at Tauriko this morning, is receiving medical attention from St John ambulance but Police say the person's injuries aren't serious.

Police Acting Sergeant Chris Hill says a blue-coloured Nissan Sunny and a red Nissan Pulsar have collided after the Sunny pulled out of the Tauriko Caltex service station at about 10.40am.

'The [driver of] the Nissan Sunny has pulled out of the service station here and unfortunately gone into the path of an eastbound vehicle, which is the little Nissan Pulsar,” says Chris.

'At this stage the driver of the Nissan Sunny is obviously quite sore because the impact has been right on the driver's side [of the vehicle].

'They're going up to the hospital to be checked out. I don't think it's anything serious.”

Chris says it doesn't appear that speed was a factor in the collision but believes a total of four people were involved in the accident but only the driver of the Sunny has been hurt.

'There was two occupants in the Sunny at least another two occupants in the other vehicle.”

State Highway 29 was briefly closed to one lane, but Chris says it has been re-opened since a vehicle has been removed from the road.

'Eastbound traffic was more affected than westbound.”

EARLIER 10.46AM:

This accident could have been so much worse if that speed limit had not been reduced to 70 kmh.
