Guy Williams’ redemption gig

Comedian Guy Williams is upfront – he reckons he has a debt to settle in Tauranga because last time he was in town he was a self-confessed 'flop”.

'I just sucked,” he admits.

It's not a great advertisement for his up-coming gig at Mount Maunganui's Laugh Club Christmas show.

But it's probably more a measure of the man that he turns a 'flop” into a funny SunLive story at his own expense.

The ‘Jono and Ben at 10' star and drive-time radio jock says he found Tauranga very difficult last time round.

'It was a bad audience – no I am joking man. It was definitely me – they were bad jokes.”

This proud funny man was hurting and he wanted to blame his audience.

'However, the wisdom of American comedian Chris Rock raced to mind – never blame your audience!”

'I guess this is redemption time for me – trying to turn it round. I don't know why it was difficult but I just sucked.”

Guy is in big company for two hours of gags at the Laugh Club Christmas show – he appears with Nick Rado and Jamie Bowen, both ‘7 Days' and Tevita Manukia ‘AotearoHA'.

But this is about Guy – he's on the phone, on the road and in full cry to convince Tauranga he will turn it around this time.

'I need new jokes, better jokes – I am working on that now. So come along Saturday week and watch me try to get revenge after my bad gig in Tauranga.”

On the strength of his shameless honesty and commitment SunLive reckons Guy is worth a second chance.

Guy is at the Laugh Club, Mount Maunganui, Saturday November 29.
