High-speed inflatable boats are ripping through the waves at Tay St beach today as day two of Thundercats racing continues.

SunLive photographer Cameron Avery captured some of the Thundercats action at Tay St beach this morning.

Today's races complete round four of the seven-round championship, with competitors eyeing positions in the sport's national series.

The boats raced two laps around Matakana Island in day one of the competition, with action heating up today as beachgoers are able to watch the Thundercats clash against the waves out from Tay St at Mount Maunganui.

Thundercats' vice president Brad Stark says there are three races to go, of which he will be racing in.

Competitors complete five heat races, giving opportunity to collect championship points, then race a final for the day.

'Where you start the final depends on how points you've collected,” says Brad. 'Then total points of the day gives winners for first, second and third; and gives each competitor points towards the championship.

'Racing should be finished by 3pm.”

The sprints races are finished in six-seven 'very high-energy, high-action” minutes.

After the final race, demonstration rides are offered to the public, for them to experience the action first-hand. It costs just $10 for adults and $5 for children.
