What's on Today? Triathlon

Good morning Sunners,

Happy birthday Auckland – thanks for allowing most of us the day off today!

A competitor finishes the swim leg at the Eves Triathlon Series in December.

It gives us more time to catch the action on the water today, as the Eves Triathlon Series Pilot Bay Classic and the Super 9 Invitational surf lifesaving competition gets underway.

Eves Triathlon Series

Doubling as Round 2 of annual Eves Triathlon Series, today's event follows the Shorebreak Surfbreaker in December, with the Coronation Classic finishing off the series on March 2.

The Eves-sponsored series attracts competitors throughout Bay of Plenty to compete in the sprint distance – a 750m swim, 16km bike and 5km run – and the super sprint distance of 375m swim, 8km bike and 2.5km run.

A duathlon consisting of 2-3km run, 16-20km bike and a 5km run is also available.

Race 2 of the Eves Triathlon Series Pilot Bay Classic starts at Pilot Bay at 8am.

Super 9

Meanwhile on the other side of the Mount, the Super 9 surf lifesaving competition will put New Zealand's best clubs against each other in an invitation-only event to see who has the best athletes throughout a range of age groups and disciplines.

Participating in the event are teams of 18 competitors including, six Under 16 teams, six Under 19 teams and six Open teams.

Clubs from Mount Maunganui, Papamoa, Mairangi Bay, Red Beach, Piha, Fitzroy, Lyall Bay and St Clair will be taking to the sand.

The Super 9 Invitational event is at Mount Maunganui Main Beach from 9am.
