Clothing bin fire at Brookfield Primary

Police and fire safety investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that started in a clothing bin outside Brookfield Primary School in Millers Road last night.

The fire started in a steel clothing bin up against the outside wall of the school, says Tauranga Fire Service station office Mark Keller.

The damage outside Brookfield Primary School today.

'We were able to stop the fire before it spread inside the school,” he says.

'There was a small amount of damage to the outside of the building, so we had to open up the wall to make sure the fire hadn't actually established inside the wall.

'The bulk of the damage was confined to the clothing and stuff.”

Three fire trucks attended, two from Tauranga and one from Greerton after the alarm was raised at 11.45pm.

It is the second suspicious fire in three days.

On Tuesday night, someone is believed to have set fire to the administration office of the Mangatawa and Papamoa Blocks.

The building was well alight when fire fighters began arriving after the alarm was raised at 11.13pm.
