Ferns’ bowlers restrict England

A four wicket haul from Tauranga-born Anna Peterson has helped the White Ferns restrict England to a modest 194 in the second ODI at the Bay Oval.

Like Wednesday's opener in Mount Maunganui, England again won the toss, but this time elected to bat in summery conditions.

But with the White Ferns bowlers applying pressure from the outset and wickets falling at regular intervals, the visitors were never able to build a decent partnership.

Captain Charlotte Edwards lead the way with 65 off 100 balls.

Peterson was the pick of the White Ferns' bowlers, snaring the wickets of Sarah Taylor, Lydia Greenway, Jenny Gunn, and Danielle Hazell. She finished with figures of 4/25 off 7.2 overs with the final wicket of Hazell coming in the last over.

For Peterson the bowling blitz is a welcome reward after winning back her place in the New Zealand team after three games for the White Ferns against the English in 2012.

Morna Nielsen and Erin Bermingham picked up two wickets apiece, both going for less than 3.70 runs an over.

Apart from Edward's 65, only Taylor's 45 off 41 helped England reach a defendable target, if their bowlers can replicate their opponents' form.

The White Ferns will once again open with captain Suzie Bates and Rachel Priest, who posted a record opening partnership of 157 against England on Wednesday.
