UPDATED 8.49AM: Two people have been taken to Tauranga Hospital following a two-truck crash on State Highway 2, near Aongatete.

Emergency services were called to the crash, near the intersection of Walker Road East, at around 8am.

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the extent of the drivers' injuries are unknown at this stage.

He says two heavy motor vehicles were involved in the crash.

"One of the lanes is blocked," says Ian, "but staff are working to move the vehicles so another lane can be opened up."

The Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit has been called to the scene and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Reports are coming in of a two-truck crash on State Highway 2, south of Katikati this morning.

The incident is believed to be near the intersection of Walker Road East.

Police, Fire and St John Paramedics are being called to the scene.

People are being advised to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.
