Wet start to the weekend

The MetService's wet weather predictions look set to continue through to the weekend, but more settled weather is expected on Sunday.

'An active front will move rapidly cross the South Island during Friday morning, then the North Island in the afternoon and early evening,” says MetService Meteorologist Emma Blades.

The MetService is predicting rain for Saturday.

'This front will bring rain from Taranaki to Wellington and to the west of the South Island, and showers to most other places.”

Saturday is looking to be another wet day for many places, as a deep low moves across the lower South Island during Saturday, while an associated trough moves across the remainder of New Zealand.

The low is expected to bring rain to most places in the South Island, with heavy falls in the west.

Saturday is packed with events across the country so our meteorologists will continue to monitor the forecasts and provide updates.

Sunday looks to be a more settled day for the North Island and the east of the South Island, with the sun putting in an appearance, as a ridge starts to build.
