Kidnapping accused in court

Four of the eight men accused of kidnapping a Tauranga man and Rotorua man have been remanded in custody until their next court appearance.

Benjamin Paul Dwyer, 28, Liam John Kane, 24, Brent Anthony Gunning, 35, and Sam Wiremu Rolleston, 23, all appeared in Rotorua District Court today.


Four Western Bay of Plenty men accused of kidnapping will remain behind bars until their next appearance.

They are jointly charged with two counts of kidnapping, using a pistol to kidnap, participating in an organised criminal group and robbery of $10,000.

Gunning and Dwyer also face a joint charge of robbery of a mobile phone.

The men were arrested following police raids in Tauranga and Whakatane earlier this week.

Other searches were carried out in Auckland Central and Waitemata Police District.

They are accused of kidnapping a man from a Tauranga address on February 16 and a second man from Rotorua on February 17.

No bail application was made by the accused when they appeared in court and they have been remanded in custody without plea.

They will appear in court before a judge on March 26.
