An elderly woman has died after a car crash in Avondale overnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Ash Street just before 10pm on Saturday.

Police say a car leaving a service station in Ash St struck an elderly female pedestrian crossing the road. She died at the scene.

Police staff are currently talking to the driver of the car.

The family of victim who is belived to be in her 80's, is also present at the scene.

Inspector Tony Wakelin says this is a sad and tragic incident involving an elderly local resident.

"Victim support has been arranged for the family and the Serious Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash."
