Woman cut free from vehicle

A woman has been seriously injured and had to be cut free from a vehicle following a serious crash near Otorohanga at the weekend.

Police, fire and ambulance attended the serious crash on Waitomo Caves Rd just before 10am on Saturday.

Police say the crash involved a car being driven by a middle aged woman and a Tour Operators van on Waitomo Caves Rd, west of the main Waitomo Complex. The woman, who was seriously injured, was eventually cut free from the car and was taken by Air Ambulance to Waikato Hospital where she is currently being treated.

The second person involved was not seriously hurt.

There was a road closure for a number of hours to allow Serious Crash Unit and investigators to conduct scene examinations.

The road is now open. Police enquiries are continuing.
