New Plymouth Police are continuing to investigate a crash that occurred on Frankley Road yesterday.

About 4pm on Saturday, emergency services attended the scene where a vehicle collided with a pedestrian.

Both the single male occupant of the vehicle and the male pedestrian were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was 22-year-old Alekh Acharya, a Nepalese national who had been residing in New Zealand for some years.

The pedestrian was Ronald Victor Millman, aged 67, of New Plymouth.

A scene examination began this morning and preliminary indications suggest speed was a factor in the crash.

The Serious Crash Unit is assisting the New Plymouth Police with the crash investigation.

Officers have spoken with a number of witnesses and encourage anyone else that saw the crash or has any other information to contact the New Plymouth Police on (06) 759 5500.

The deaths have been referred to the Coroner.
