Tauranga shopping centre bins torched

Two people have been arrested after some bins behind Tauranga shopping centre were torched in the weekend.

At about 3.40pm on Sunday, police were called to a report of a fire in some bins at the Fraser Cove Shopping complex.

“The caller informed police they had witnessed the fire being lit and were still observing the offenders,” says a police spokesperson.

Police responded and arrested two men, aged 19 and 22 years. They have both been charged with wilfully sets fire to property and will appear in Tauranga District Court on April 13.

“We would like to thank the members of the public who reported this incident and assisted us in locating this offender.”

People who do see suspicious behaviour can report it to Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300.
