Mills Reef Winery winemaker Paul Dawick introduces the new 2016 Reserve Rosé.
The grapes for this sumptuous Rosé were sourced from our premier vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels wine growing district, crafted entirely from Merlot grapes harvested at an excellent 24 Brix on April 6, 2016.
On arrival at the winery, the grapes were crushed and allowed 24 hours skin contact before pressing off skins to stainless steel for fermentation with a selected Rosé yeast to retain the vibrant fruit characters along with excellent structure that this vineyard can express.
Malolactic fermentation was denied, allowing the fruit to shine through. The wine was fined with casein, filtered and bottled under screwcap closure on 17 June 2016.
This pioneer release single-vineyard Reserve Rosé is crafted in a dry style from premium Merlot grapes grown in an exceptional year.
It exudes lovely strawberry and cherry complemented with subtle spicy aniseed notes. The palate is textural and full-bodied, with a refreshing finish.
