Leading the future of active transport

Active Voice
with Paul Roozendaal
Community Cycling Coordinator

A leader is a person that organises a group or sets a process in motion, but a Ride Leader's role extends far beyond simply bringing people together and starting a ride.

The Ride Leader programme is designed for cyclists keen to share their love of cycling with others.

Tauranga City Council, Sport BOP and Cycling NZ would like to have a network of passionate cyclists who are keen to share their knowledge and passion of cycling with others by becoming cycling group leaders across the Western Bay of Plenty region.

Group rides may only last an hour or two at a time, but the experiences that people have will stay with them forever.

Whether you are a mountain biker, road cyclist, recreational cyclist, novice or pro we are keen to have you part of this programme and help us inspire others to get cycling!

In this upcoming workshop, you will learn how to lead a group of cyclists, cycle skills, cycle road sense and safety, cycle set up and bike maintenance, and discover local on/off road cycle routes, plus meet likeminded people.

The workshop is held on Tuesday, October 10 at 9am to 2pm, at the Sport Bay of Plenty Office, 406 Devonport Road, Tauranga.

What are your thoughts on the council’s proposal to increase rates 40 per cent over the next three years?

Good, it will help pay to revitilise the city
Not good, rates are high enough now
I’m ok with an increase, but maybe not such a big one
