Two trapped in two vehicle crash

UPDATED 3.35PM: State Highway 2, south of Katikati, is closed following a two-vehicle crash.

Two people are trapped and firefighters are working to free them from the wreckages.

A Northern Fire Communications shift manager Dallas Ramsay says is south of Tetley Road.

"Two people are trapped in seperate vehicles. One vehicle appears to have gone down the bank.

"We have guys at the scene working to free the trapped people."

Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion says the road is blocked and there are no diversion available.

Motorists are advised to expect delays or avoid the area if possible.

Reports are coming in of a two car crash on State Highway 2, near Katikati.

Emergency services have been called to the crash, which is reported to be on the highway 2km north of Apata Station Road.

There are reports that the road is blocked.
