State Highway 29 is now open after a bin rolled off the back of a rubbish truck forcing the highway to be closed earlier.
Police were called to the crash, near Redwood Lane in Tauranga, around 10.20am.
A police spokesperson says no one was injured when the bin came off the back of the rubbish truck.
The highway was closed for several hours as a crane was brought in to remove the bin from the road.
A digger was also used to clear debris from the road.
The NZTA says the highway is now open, but expect delays as the backlog of traffic clears.
"The exact circumstances around what happened in the crash will be established in due course and at this stage it is too early to say if charges will be laid," say police.
Update: SH29 Tauriko is now OPEN following an earlier crash. Expect some delays in the area as traffic eases. ^LC

It's hard to imagine what it must have been like for the driver whose car the container flew over! Someone will have some questions to answer as to how and why the container ended up this way...
