Fire crews from Taupo and Rotorua are among five appliances called to deal with a large scrub fire near the Ohaaki power station north of Taupo this evening.
NZ fire Service's northern communications centre shift manager Dallas Ramsay says there are five fire trucks plus a tanker and a command unit, and rural fire dealing with the blaze which is on multiple fronts. The area involved is not known.
The alarm was raised about 4pm. Power company staff have also been called after power poles in Te Toke road caught fire near the intersection with Ohaaki Road.
