Police say the driver who knocked a Maungatapu Primary School pupil off his bike after school today is not at fault.

The child suffered scrapes and received treatment by St John Ambulance staff at the scene.

The accident was at the intersection of Sunset Crescent with Maungatapu Road after 3pm.

Acting sergeant Rowan Scott says the driver was turning in as the child left the kerb, and he was knocked off his bike.

The bike appeared undamaged.
