A yacht, around 30 feet, has washed up in Pilot Bay, as the region gets hammered by the waves.
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says people are also sandbagging their properties.
A video taken earlier tonight shows large swells in Pilot Bay as ex-cyclone Cook swept through.
There are also reports of flooding and power outages in the area.
