A man who left the Tauranga District Court cells in a ‘serious condition' last Wednesday has since died.
Police told SunLive they are currently liaising with the 32-year-old's family.
'We extend our sympathies to them during this difficult time,” says Western Bay of Plenty area commander Inspector Clifford Paxton.
'Police are currently investigating, and the matter has been referred to the Coroner.”
The man was taken to Tauranga Hospital in an ambulance after being found in a serious condition in the court cells just after midday on Wednesday, October 11.
