Labour Weekend festivities

The ANZ Community Day event will have plenty of entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Photo: Supplied.

The Strand will be closed, the streets will be cleared, and markets will pop unlike candles on a cake at a celebratory community day.

The Tauranga Art Gallery are hosting a community day to celebrate their 10th anniversary, which was on October 20.

The ANZ Community Day event will have plenty of entertainment for everyone to enjoy, such as music, dance, poetry, art and live street performances all in the Tauranga CBD.

There will be an Art Treasure Hunt where 150 art pieces from local artists will be hidden in the CBD to be found. Upload your images, clues and finds at the Art.Treasure.Hunt Facebook group.

Live acoustic music will be programmed throughout the day, a poetry picnic at midday and then the birthday festivities - cutting of the cake, a mass singing of happy birthday and a game of pass the parcel at 12:30pm. Storytelling, poetry and puppet shows will also feature.

On top of that, there will also be artist Matthew Galleli whowill be creating an interactive chalk mural on the Tauranga Waterfront, and performances from DanceAvenue, Inzpire Dance, KJ Studios, and Rise Dance Company and CUDo.

So head on down to the Waterfront from 10am-2pm and get amongst the free family day event.
