Ward reopens after influenza outbreak

The Tauranga Hospital ward closed as a result of an influenza outbreak is now open.

Ward 2A (Kaupapa Ward) was closed earlier this week as a precautionary measure.

BOPDHB Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr Diane Hanfelt-Goade says seven patients on the ward were diagnosed with influenza forcing the hospital to close the ward for new admissions as a precautionary measure.

'There have been no new cases of Influenza for more than 48 hours and Ward 2A reopened yesterday.

'Our advice to the public is to be very vigilant about hand hygiene, including regular hand washing with soap and water or alcohol gel.

'If you are feeling unwell you should contact your GP.”
