The Westpac rescue helicopter Whitianga crew had to airlift an injured mountain biker near Whangamata on Saturday.

The male teenager had suffered a fall from his mountain bike in a Whangamata forestry block, and had multiple injuries.

An intensive care paramedic was hover off-loaded at the scene, after which the helicopter landed further up the hill.

The patient was flown to Tauranga Hospital in a moderate condition.
