The Westpac rescue helicopter made a flight to Motiti Island yesterday evening after a woman suffered a medical complaint.
The Whitianga crew was tasked to the island at around 5pm on Monday to assist a female patient in her 40s.
She was flown to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition.
Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust communications manager Lincoln Davies says typically the Tauranga or Rotorua-based rescue helicopters would have attended such a callout.
'However, these services weren't available at the time.”
