A long awaited Papamoa retail and residential development is getting underway with a soil turning ceremony on the site at the corner of Domain and Papamoa Beach Roads today.

The development of the 7356m2 vacant lot between Papamoa Beach Road and Percy Road has been in the works for more than two years.

The design to be constructed by the current developers MGK Development and Management Ltd is similar in concept to that originally proposed – a four storey development of town houses, apartment and ground floor retail along the Papamoa Beach road frontage with a shelter over a wide footpath.

Construction starts on the 12 townhouses on Monday.

'The townhouses are a separate development on the back street,” says office administrator Klaus Kim.

The townhouses are pre-sold and are expected to be completed mid-2018.

The 30 apartments are built over the retail block which will contain 11 shops. Overall the development will house about 300 people when completed, says Klaus.
