Large scale power outage in Tauranga

UPDATED 3.15pm: Supply is restored to all properties in Tauranga's Otumoetai suburb after the limb of a tree fell across lines earlier this afternoon.

Network Operations Manager Phil Marsh says the power cut happened about 12.30pm and affected 885 customers. Supply was restored within half an hour.

Powerco is still investigating what caused the incident which occurred near the corner of Landscape Rd and Vale St.

Earlier:

More than 800 homes and properties are without power in the Otumoetai area.

According to Powerco, 885 properties are affected by the outage.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a tree has come down on powerlines on Vale Street.

Contractors have been called to the scene.

Power is estimated to be back on in the area around 3.30pm.
